Every year during Janai Purnima falls on the month of Bhadra; hindu people around the world used to visit the holy places. As such in Jumla Hindu pilgrimages also visit the holy places situated on the top of the mountains as well as other holy places situated in country or abroad.

Hindu pilgrimages as well as other people or tourist goes to celebrate this festival.On this day pilgrimages do not eat eggs and meats to become clean. late night pilgrimages perform Deauda dance in the name of god and goddess all nigt.  On the day Janai Purnima all pilgrimages take bath in the lakes,river or tap at the cultural sites they gone for puja. later the process of Puja begins at temple.

Lets Plan the Yarchagumba Trek in the Hidden land of Karnali region

Introduction of Yarchagumba

  • Nepali: Jiwan Buti (life herb)
  • Tibetan: Yarsha Gunbu (summer plant, winter insect)
  • Chinese: Dong Chong Xia Cao (winter worm, summer grass)
  • Japanese: Tôchû kasô
  • Latin: Cordyceps sinensis (Berkeley) Saccardo
  • Distribution: Nepal, China, Tibet, India and Bhutan.
  • Elevation: Generally found above 3,000 meters.

BBC documentary film maker called as “Himalayan Viagra” as its sexual tonic property. The name of YARSAGUMBA means (summer grass, winter worm) in Tibetan language, for a rare fungus that parasites on the body of a caterpillar of a moth (genus THITARODES). 

This so-called CATERPILLAR FUNGUS (CORDYCEPS SINENSIS) grows only at elevation 3500m -4500m altitude of Tibet, Nepal, China, Bhutan and North-East India. For its medicinal values, YARSAGUMBA has been an important component for a many of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, due to a constantly growing demand and the difficulties in harvesting, YARSAGUMBA has become the most expansive medicinal substance in the world. The harvesting period of yarsagumba is end of April to June & July. So during this month’s all the people of Jumla,Mugu and Dolpo region were go to pasture and camp there to collect the yarsagumba.

This trek is unique and first time in Nepal ever done by any trekking agencies. So in this trek we explore the Yarsagumba abounding places. We guide you to take on pasture and feel of real & live experiences of yarsagumba harvesting process. In this trek we will take you to pasture and you also can involve collecting the yarsagumba & interaction with local people (Yarsagumba Collector) which will be the wonderful experience.

Hurry to get Rara; a largest lake of Nepal

Rara Lake
Deepest and largest lake;Rara and Smallest National Park of Nepal waiting for welcome you all in this season. Beauty made by Rhododendron;a national flower of Nepal decorated a lake around makes you jealous.

Jumla is not far from capital due to direct bus services provided by Karnali Yatayat Samiti every day. It takes you  approx 20 hours driving on bus to reach Jumla. Per pax cost Rs.2800/ (Twenty eight hundred).

These days Jeeps were also operating from Nepaljung and Surkhet;it takes you around 10/12 hours driving to reach Jumla Bazaar. Per pax cost of Rs.2500/(Twenty five hundred)

Those who love trekking;it takes one night and half day walk to reach Rara lake from Jumla Bazaar.This is a tea house trekking where you get good accommodation and fooding service in locally owned and run small hotels along side of trekking trail.

For your information;You can hire Jeeps to Rara from Jumla on which it takes 9 to 10 hours driving along side of Hima river and historically important Sinja valley. It costs Rs 30000 (Jumla to Rara) and Rs.50,000/ (Jumla to Rara and Rara to Jumla) for reserve Jeep service .

Further, Soon by the first week of Baisakh (first month of Nepali calendar) we are going to organise a Yarsha trek to meadows of Mugu where you can able to watch how people collect Yarsha, in which condition they lives what they eat,how they entertain and so many to experience.

The lifestyle relate to horse life is very less seen in these days though historically these Jumli horses has a means to daily lives,culture and everything for people and community.These days these horses were rarely seen and farming by individuals.Soon these horseses going to disappear in Jumla.
